The original specification was to preserve
the lime kiln in its current condition, i.e. not to allow
further deterioration. This was achieved by careful excavation
of the core or ‘drum’, and installation of two brick piers
to support the aperture. Further meetings with Natural
England, the landowners and a structural engineer secured
additional funding to completely reinstate the limekiln.

- Survey and examination of existing structure
- Removal of the existing drum infill, excavate and
repair of brick drum
- Make safe existing rubble opening
- Reconstruct quoins in limecrete to form face of kiln
N.B Limecrete is essential to preserve the maximum amount
of existing fabric
- Consolidate surrounding rubble walling
